Pembroke Decatur Harton

Throughout my childhood, and even until 2004, older family members told my siblings and I that our GreatGrandfather, Pembroke Decatur Harton, who invented many  things, also invented the machine that makes the fig newton cookie.  I do have a broadside from his business in Philadelphia (he was born in NC) that includes a long list of his inventions.  The machine in question is not among them.  Our info was that he had patents, including that one, but they've all expired long since.

Now,  the older generation is gone.  How do I pursue finding info on his inventions and patents?  While I am somewhat used to genealogical inquiry, I am in the dark about this.

Can anyone out there give me any directions? Any ideas will be much appreciated.

Thanks. Legaleagle.
